Coro Juvenil de la OFGC
Marcela Garrón
choirmaster
The Coro Juvenil de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria (Youth Choir of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria) was created as part of the choral project of the Educational Division of the Fundación Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria aiming both giving the members of the Coro Infantil de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria (Children’s Choir of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria) the opportunity to continue their instruction and instruct future members of the Coro de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria (Choir of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria). Since it was created in 1997, Andej Borzym, Marcin Lukasz Mazur, Marcela Garrón Velarde and Amaya Añúa Tejedor have been their choirmasters. Marcela Garrón conducts again the Coro Juvenil since September 2009.
Over the last years, it has kept on a high number of performances in Gran Canaria, participating in the “Gran Canaria Coral” and “Gran Canaria en concierto” cycles of the Fundación Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria. Some of its concerts have been carried out in collaboration with the Joven Orquesta de Gran Canaria, among them the one offered in the Auditorio Nacional (Madrid) in the frame of the European Music Day in June 2008.
In 2002, the Coro Juvenil de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria began an exchange programme with other young choirs, such as the Coro Juvenil David Goldsmith of Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife), the Coro de la Academia Z. Kodály of Molina Segura (Murcia) and the Coro Sinera (Young Choir of the Coral Cantiga).
